GM tells vehicle owners to remove key fob, extra items from key rings

General Motors, LLC, is telling owners of 6.7 million of its vehicles to remove all items from their key rings, including the key fob, leaving only the ignition key. This, as the company recalls certain model year 2000-05 Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo, 1997-2005 Chevrolet Malibu, 1999-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 1998-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue, 1999-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and 2004-08 Pontiac Grand Prix vehicles because the weight on the key ring and/or bumpy road conditions or jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning the engine off, thus also the airbags, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. GM's recall number is 14350. A notification schedule has yet to be announced. Dealer will fix the problem free of charge.
