Ignition key issue behind Chrsyler recall of 525K vehicles

Chrysler Group LLC is recalling 525,206 certain model year 2009-10 Dodge Journey 2008-10 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country vehicles because road conditions or other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to jump out of the run position, turning off the engine. If the key moves into the accessory or off position, the engine -- and thus possibly key systems not limited to the power brakes, power steering and air bags -- will turn off, increasing the risk of a crash and/or injury in the event of a crash. Drivers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only their ignition key. Chrysler will notify vehicle owners of the recall. A notification schedule has yet to be advertised. Dealers will make the repairs for free. The company's recall number is L25, an expansion of recall number 11V-139. The problem is similar to one faced by General Motors, which is recalling millions of vehicles, including the Camaro model. For information, call Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.
