AAA’s Tipsy Tow rides again
Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone. If you plan to celebrate with spirits, AAA's Tipsy Tow is offering rides for you and your ride home. Dial 800-222-4357 -- or AAA-HELP -- for a free, one way tow home of up to ten miles between 6 p.m. tonight and 6 a.m. tomorrow morning. The service is offered to members and non-members alike. Any passengers in your car may also get a ride back to your place if there is room in the tow truck's cab. Reservations are not accepted. As little as one drink can impair judgment, vision, steering, braking and reaction time. Citing 2008 statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, AAA reports drunk-driving crashes accounted for about 36 percent of highway deaths among young people age 16 to 24. What's more, the agency reported that of the 32,885 people who died in traffic collisions in 2010, the latest data available, an estimated 10,228 people lost their lives in drunk driving crashes. Those people who are no longer walking among us accounted for 31 percent of all traffic deaths that year. In regard to the cost of being convicted of DUI in California, AAA estimates that fines, penalties, restitution, legal fees and added insurance expenses add up to $12,000 but there is no price tag for taking someone's life.
