Motorcycle safety training Oct. 12

The Scotts Valley Police Department's "Motorcycle Safety Training Course Safety and Survival Skills For the Civilian Rider" is coming down the pike Oct. 12 at Scotts Valley High Campus, 555 Glenwood Drive, Scotts Valley. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., participants will learn defensive driving techniques, clutch and throttle control, controlled braking, cornering, head and eye placement, sizing up surfaces and hazard avoidance from six current and former police officers with more than 100 years of riding experience. To enroll, participants must have a valid M1 endorsement, proof of auto insurance, helmet and glasses. Space is limited to 16 riders.
