Fishhook-area repairs to lead to lane closures, delays

Expect lane closures as Caltrans works to repair the bridge rail damaged last week on the Fishhook during a one car traffic collision. During this emergency one-day repair, which is to last 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, crews will close the fast lane on northbound Highway 1 between Emeline Street and Highway 17. The repair comes after a 26-year-old Gilroy man on July 10 struck the barriers on the left shoulder past the bridge, reported reported CHP officer Brad Sadek. The man told officers he had momentarily fallen asleep at the wheel of his Ford truck before the crash, which occurred roughly 6 a.m.. The man was not injured. Delays of up to 10 minutes should be expected during the repair project. Motorists are reminded to move over and slow down when traveling through construction sites.
