‘Ask the DMV’ solves life’s driving mysteries

Each week, Street Smarts receives the "Ask the DMV" transportation column featuring frequently asked questions from drivers. Below is a topic Street Smarts found of interest and hopes you do, too: It is legal for drivers to install neon lights underneath their vehicles as long as they are not red, so other road users do not think the vehicle is an emergency responder. Also, the lights may not emit more than 0.05 candela per square inch. "A candela is the unit of measure for light emitting objects and should be clearly marked on the equipment’s packaging," the column reported. Stay on top of road rules at www.dmv.ca.gov.
