Today’s Start Smart class canceled to honor fallen SCPD officers
Today's Start Smart class has been canceled and those who planned to attend are invited to the next regularly scheduled course April 25. The change is to allow consideration of Thursday's memorial service for two Santa Cruz Police officers killed in the line of duty last week. Taught by the California Highway Patrol, Start Smart teaches teens and their families about safe driving practices and the dangers that face teens while they are either behind the wheel of a vehicle or a passenger in one driven by another teen. The class begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Santa Cruz Police Department Community Room, 155 Center St. For information and/or to register, call CHP officer Sarah Jackson or Nancy Nichols, senior volunteer, at 662-0511.
