Transmission issues behind General Motors recall of 426,240 Saturns, Chevrolets and Pontiacs

A transmission problem is behind the recall of certain model year 2007-2010 Saturn Aura, 2008-10 Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 vehicles. The General Motors recall encompasses 426,240 of those vehicles. It involves the shifter allowing drivers to move it into “PARK,” turn the vehicle off and remove the key. But the vehicle may not be in the “PARK” position, may be able to roll away and may not be restarted, possibly resulting in a crash. GM will contact vehicle owners while dealers will make repairs for free. A notification schedule has not been provided. The recall number is 12106. For information, call the company at (800) 521-7300 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236.
