Caltrans to repair fast lane on Hwy 1 in Aptos; Nearly 68K Jeep Wranglers recalled

Caltrans closes one lane on Hwy 1 between Rio del Mar, State Park In an effort to rehabilitate the pavement, Caltrans will close one lane of traffic today (May 22) in each direction of Highway 1 between Rio del Mar Boulevard and State Park Drive. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., crews will pour hot mix asphalt on the highway's left lane to improve traction and smooth out the ride. One lane will remain open in each direction and no two on/off ramps will be closed during the work. Expect 10-15 minute delays. The project is part of a $12 million 10-mile Watsonville and Aptos rehabilitation project along the highway. Next week, workers will erect signs and protective barriers to protect highway crews. The work is to take place during night and day time hours, as is to involve alternating lane closures. It's to wrap up this fall. The work will be performed by Pavex, Construction, Inc. of Watsonville. Motorists are reminded to slow down or move over for the cone zone. The transmission skid plate, located near the catalytic converter can collect debris, which can ignite and cause a vehicle fire. The company will reach out to vehicle owners while dealers will replace the skid plate with a skid bar at no cost. The recall is to begin this month. The safety recall number is M22.
