Harley-Davidson recalls nearly 251,000 motorcycles

Harley-Davidson is recalling 250,757 motorcycles representing 25 models manufactured from June 6 2008 through Sept. 16, 2011 because of a problem with the rear brake light. The recalled bikes represent model year 2009-2012 touring, CVO touring and trike vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The problem is that excessive heat may come through the exhaust system causing the brake light switching system to fail, meaning the brake light may not work. This increases riders' chances of being a rear-end collision. The recall is to begin on or around Oct. 31 and Harley owners will be notified. The problem will be fixed for no charge. For a complete list of the bikes being recalled, call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's hot line at (888) 327-4236 or visit http://www.safecar.gov.
