Pedestrian safety angle to cyclist manners debate
Dear Street Smarts,
Q: There is another issue besides the cyclists running the stop sign (Street Smarts, June 24). Please remind folks that when the sidewalk is blocked by a trash can or a parked car, wheelchair users and others, including children, may have to go out into the street to get by. For wheelchair users, this is especially problematic because there are limited places where they can get back onto the sidewalk. Be courteous and think about others. Don't
block the sidewalk. It is illegal to block the sidewalk under Section 22500 of the California Vehicle Code.
Debbie Bulger, Mission: Pedestrian
A: Thank you Debbie. You just did.
