Child passenger safety help from AAA, local agencies

AAA of Northern California will help parents ensure the safety of their young children by hosting free child safety seat and booster seat inspections. Motor vehicle crashes are the top killers of children age four and up, as children are improperly seated in the vehicle, AAA reported. “Many parents are unaware that new recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics and AAA urge parents to keep their infants and toddlers in a rear-facing child safety seat,” according to the organization. In collisions, child safety seats reduce the risk of death by 71 percent among infants and 54 percent in toddlers, AAA reported. However, three out of four child seats are installed incorrectly. While AAA is offering a Bay Area-wide event Thursday, May 19, on a drop-in basis, appointments can be made for future inspection and education times, as well. The local child seat inspection office is at 1195 S. Green Valley Road in Watsonville. For information, call Carmen Jones at (831) 768-4556 . Many other agencies countywide offer free child safety and booster seats inspection, installation and education on an appointment basis. Click here for more information.
