Traffic control on Branciforte Drive to remain one car at a time, county says

Dear Street Smarts, Q: Please suggest that the traffic control for the Branciforte Drive slide be modified to include a sign that says two or two cars per stop. Currently, everyone is very 'polite' and only goes one car at a time which tends to create long backup lines. Thanks, Linda Hofer via email A: That is not possible, said Jack Sohriakoff, senior civil engineer for the county's public works department. “The use of a STOP sign has strict limits – one vehicle at a time,” he said. “There is not a standard sign available that allows more than one vehicle to proceed.” Sohriakoff has never seen such a sign “attempted before,” he added. “I’m sure it would lead to serious problems and liability issues, and that is why it isn’t allowed,” Sohriakoff said.
