Options for seniors who can’t drive any more

If you or someone you know is an older adult who has had to give up driving, the Department of Motor Vehicles wants you to know you have options. In this week's installment of its "Ask George" column, the state agency recommends exploring local transportation alternatives. Options to consider may include:
  • Carpooling with family or friends
  • Calling a taxi
  • Using shuttle buses or vans
  • Check out public transportation, such as buses or light rail
  • Walk or ride a bicycle
The Santa Cruz County Transportation Commission is a great place to start that search. There, you'll find lists of transportation agencies in the county, as well as safe routes to ride bicycles. The site also has links to other agencies and organizations of interest.
