Cyclists are responsible for pedestrian safety, as well, reader says

Dear Street Smarts, Q: I just read the pedestrian safety column (in Monday, Nov. 1 Street Smarts) and wanted to say that bicyclists also have to follow these same guidelines. I've seen it happen -- bike riders don't bother stopping at stop signs, a separate issue entirely, and 'buzz' pedestrians who have taken the time to look both ways and wait for an opening in traffic. Watching two toddlers and their father almost get run into by a bike rider has motivated my writing in to you about this. Thanks, Marissa Maciel via email A: Thank you for your email, Marissa. Bicyclists, take heed.
