Community meeting to discuss Highway 1/Morrissey Auxiliary Lanes project Tuesday

Caltrans and the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission are hosting a community meeting Tuesday to discuss the look of the Highway 1 to Morrissey Auxiliary Lanes project. The meeting hopes to gather community input for making the project visually pleasing within the confines of the project. Visual elements to be discussed include the appearance of the La Fonda Avenue bridge, retaining walls, concrete barriers and the roadside landscaping scheme. The final design on the auxiliary lanes project is currently underway. Construction should begin in late 2011 and continue for 18-to 24-months. From the meeting, the RTC and Caltrans hope to draft a final project design that meets the community’s preferences. Tuesday’s meeting will run from 6-8 p.m. in the De Laveaga Elementary School, 114 Morrissey Boulevard in Santa Cruz. The aesthetics presentation will last from 7-8 p.m. Anyone who is unable to attend the meeting can stay abreast of the project online at or contact Trais Norris, Senior Environmental Planner, at 2015 East Shields Avenue Suite 100, Fresno, CA 93726. Norris  also can be reached by email at, or call (559) 243-8178.
