When buying a used car, who pays the registration fees?

Today’s blog topic comes from the Department of Motor Vehicles: A vehicle owner who pays to register their car is not entitled to a refund should they decide to sell it. “Vehicle registration is inherited with the sale,” according to the DMV. Similarly, used car buyers who purchase a vehicle that has current registration tags and paperwork are not subject to registration fees because they have already been paid. However, if the car buyer chooses a vehicle that has expired registration, he or she is responsible to pay for registration and any late fees.
