Studying to drive when English is not your first language

It’s time for another interesting topic from the state Department of Motor Vehicles – studying for the driver’s exam when your English is shaky.

The DMV offers the Driver’s Handbook in MP3 audio format in English and Spanish. People who wish to study the handbook can download the audio onto their home computer then transfer the file to an iPod or other MP3 player. The state agency launched the audio handbook last year in an attempt to improve traffic safety. To download, visit http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/audio_hdbk_toc.htm

Note: while the audio file is only available in English and Spanish, the printed book comes in those languages, plus Armenian, Chinese, Korean, Punjabi, Russian, Tagalog and Vietnamese.
