I caught up with Pajaro Valley’s Anthony Cantrell today, who last Saturday set the single-game Santa Cruz County rushing mark by running for 362 yards and five touchdowns on 25 carries.
I’ll have a column about it on Friday.
I think one of the more interesting things about it was that P.V. took advantage by constantly attacking the left side — so much so that they ran the same play, Black 33 Lead, over and over again.
What’s interesting about that is when P.V. coach Joe Gregorio was at St. Francis in 2009, the Sharks’ Jacob Miller ran for a school-high 284 yards on 27 carries against The King’s Academy.
The play Gregorio remembers calling over and over again?
The lead play, of course.
“We ran lead about 15 times in that game,” Gregorio said.
