Newman, US perfect in early matches at ITF Seniors World Team Championships

We did a story on Judy Newman for Monday’s paper. She’s a tennis pro at La Madrona Swim & Racquet Club and the coach of the girls team at Scotts Valley High who is competing for the U.S. at the ITF Seniors World Team Championships in San Diego this week.

You can read the story here.

Newman and the U.S. are so far rolling over the competition in pool play. They defeated The Netherlands 3-0 and Poland 3-0, and will play Ireland today in their final round-robin match.

Against The Netherlands, Newman teamed up with Mariana Hollman in doubles and the two defeated Mirjam Van Den Tillaar and Sandra Hagman 6-4, 6-2. Against Poland, Newman and teammate Jarilyn Joseph went up against Marzena Rowicka and Monika Rajska and defeated the pairing 6-0, 6-2.
