Quarterback Tate Forcier is out at San Jose State University, according to the Merc’s Jon Wilner.
The former Michigan starter never played a down for the Spartans, although he was expected to be the team’s No. 1 option at QB heading into this fall.
You can read up about it here.
Forcier’s departure leaves an opening at quarterback, though, and included on the list of possible replacements is Scotts Valley High alum Blake Jurich.
Jurich played in one game last year, throwing for just four yards on 1-of-3 passing and a pick. He also ran the ball three times for 22 yards.
Other candidates include Joe Gray, Dasmen Stewart — who was the backup last season and is, by far, the most experienced returning QB — as well as David Fales, a transfer from Monterey Peninsula College who previously played at Palma High in Salinas.
