About me

First off, I hate talking about myself. And I hate that goofy mug of myself on top of this page, so no need to comment on its said goofiness. I’m aware.

Anyway, I’ll make this quick.

I’m Andrew Matheson, the newest addition to the Santa Cruz Sentinel — really the only addition in several years, they tell me. No pressure.

I’ve been here since … July? … covering sports in Santa Cruz, mostly football, but also disc golf, which is to never be referred to as frolf no matter how difficult it may be.

I previously worked in Hollister for four years, covering the Balers and the TCAL. Prior to that, I was in Central Oregon in a tiny town called Prineville, which was HQ for Les Schwab Tire and little else. [I’m kidding! I love ya, Prineville!]

Before that, it was the Univ. of Oregon [go ducks], and prior to that, it was Massachusetts. Why did I come to the West Coast from Massachusetts, you ask? Because I’m running from something. That’s why.

I promise I’ll keep my posts on the Red Sox few and far between, if at all.

I plan on keeping up with this blog, which is easy to say now, of course. It’ll focus on anything sports related that I’m covering, anything sports related that I have a thought on.

If you have a tip, feel free to email me.

Again, I’m keeping this brief.

Enjoy …
