The Santa Cruz Portuguese Hall’s 80th Annual Holy Ghost Parade traveled down Pacific Ave. on Sunday, July 6th, 2008, as part of weekend-long festivities and long-standing tradition. Check out footage from the celebration and listen to a telling of the story behind the custom.

Thank you for posting this video to your site, the Portuguese people have been here for many years and an important part of the Santa Cruz Community. I attended this festival as a child and happy to see its celebrating its 80th anniversary!

A lot goes into this festival. I grew up around it, all those capes were custom hand made. It’s a lot of work. People come from all over California, and the Santa Cruz queen goes to other cities for the same thing.
On the front page of that website the Light blue cape was from the outgoing senior queen for Santa Cruz and the teal was the incoming. There is also a junior queen, they are usually like 7 or 8 years old.
Haha I know all these people, and I’m in this.
