A day after being pounded by Friday’s storm, and after being lashed by high surf at high tide Saturday morning, streets in the Capitola village were closed, roads in mid-County were unpassable, and a few brave souls got out in the churning surf. (Video by Tom Moore)
I lived in SC for 11 years, I don’t ever recall Capitola looking like that. Wow! And yes, I miss that place. Its gotta be one of the best surfing towns in the world.

PS I’m divorced now but I actually bought my wedding ring at Stephans. =)
We walk the Esplanade almost daily - my hat is off to the guys cleaning up the mess. They were out there in the biting winds scraping up the mess as quickly as possible, even before the crack of dawn. This is the time of year I do NOT envy the city maintenance workers!
I used to live in Capitola, and work at the sentinel.I have many fond memories of watching the ocean during our big storms and delivering papers no matter how bad the storm. thanks for the memories, we in alberta Canada now along way from home.
I live in Colorado and visit Capitola, Santa Cruz often to visit family… Awesome waves, all your storms are bringing us winds, rain and snow, we too were without power last night for awhile.
Wow, crazyness. Capitola took a pounding. Its hard to believe that in a few months the village will accomodate thousands of summer time tourists. The guys in the saftey-yellow rain gear deserve some praise. See you at Zelda’s.

The Sentinal is an easy way to keep informed with whats new in Santa Cruz, since moving away I check the sentinal frequently.
