SENTINEL VIDEO: Dogs at Lighthouse Field

As of Friday, Nov. 16, 2007, all dogs at Lighthouse Field State Beach (which includes Lighthouse Field and Its Beach) must be on-leash. State parks officials say they will give out warnings rather than tickets during a four-month grace period to educate dog owners about the change in the leash rules.
The 30-year contract that allowed the city Parks and Recreation Department to oversee the state-owned park expired Thursday, when dogs enjoyed their last day of legal freedom to run in the park.

This is so cute! :-) Awww! I live on Columbia and Pelton so just a few yards from the Lighthouse field. The dogs (and they’re all puppies to me, no matter how old or young) are sooooo cute :-) I hope the puppies can continue to roam free and the park ranger will turn a blind eye to that ;-) Heheheh

You know I like dogs. It’s the dog owners that act like jackasses. Some people are really afraid of dogs, some people don’t want dogs jumping on them, one older woman was knocked down and broke her hip, some people are really allergic to dogs. It’s always, NOT MY DOG, until your pet really bites a child or attcks another dog. It’s the dog owners that need to be responsible and held accountable. They are the worst people to deal with. They go crazy on you if you mention anything about Fido. HOLY SMOKES! I feel really sorry for the poor Rangers that are tasked with controlling these people.

    Friends of Lighthouse Field,
It appears the city of Santa Cruz sold you guys down the river in 2005. I would be really pissed off too!

The official Santa Cruz Police Department “calls for service” records for Lighthouse Field for April 3, 2002 to April 26, 2003 list three calls for service related to dogs. None were prompted by dog aggression — all three were for stray dogs. The Santa Cruz Fire Department also checked their incident list for the same period. According to Deputy Fire Chief Matt Tracey, on October 21, 2002, a dog got its paw caught in a car door. No other incidents were reported.

Maybe I am missing something, but if the Terminator wants to close down state parks for lack of funds, why would he not accept 1 mil. and let Santa Cruz take it off his bank roll?

dog owners need to clean up after their dogs.
I see dogs being walked at b-40 everyday and many do not pick up the poo.
why wait til you get to the school yard? have your dog poo on your yard.
kids have fallen in fresh poo during PE class.

If those Rangers come near my dog, they are in BIG trouble. He hates the Mailman and people in uniform. I’ll just let him go crazy. My dog is NOT going back on a leash.

That video was typical of some of the videos posted on this site. Totally worthless! What was the point of that?

More areas that are legal for off-leash use for dog’s will reduce confrontations between people that have dog’s and those that prefer to avoid them.Oh,one other thing,my dog does not, graffiti private property, leave trash, broken glass, used diapers, used condoms, plastic water bottles,or nails from burnt pallets.I wish most kid’s were as well behaved as my dog.
