Ahhh… I miss Santa Cruz. Halloween in Santa Cruz is always happening night!

    Good job on the video!

Its an okay video. Not really professional quality but an okay first try by the Sentinel. Schmuel is a better photographer than videoographer, that’s for sure. Its all in the editing Schmuel - video’s darkroom.
How about having a video news piece on the website. Or even photos on the front (that aren’t ads)?

You must have filmed early as most people in costume arrived after 10:30pm. Pretty Tame from years past, course I guess the Police putting their power on display, kind of kept everyone in check. Overall it was good. The Video, pretty good.

You need a place for people to post there own videos & pics! It’s 2006 for Christ’s sake!

@Stan: We’re just getting started, and we’re taking all suggestions from our readers seriously.

    @Zappa: We’re working on it…

Hello, I can hear the audio, but there is no image.
I’m using MAC OS 10.2.8 - has anyone else using a MAC been able to view the video?

I agree that this must have been taped early. It seemed like Everyone was in costume by 11pm, and it was both fun and a bit insane. I was performing with a group of clowns, and though many people were supportive, the drunk and rude seemed especially empowered.

I see the video fine on my Mac with 10.3.9. Try a dfferent browser or updating quicktime.

Dora, I’m on a Mac and I could view the video with no problems. I’m running OSX 10.3.8, and Firefox 1.5.0.7.

Great video and a great night. I saw Schmuel taping me and my pal around 9:00 pm, if that helps the time question for folks.

I’m on a Mac (10.3.9) and the video plays just fine.

This was the first time I took a break since 1979 from making my haunted yard for the kids in my neighborhood, although I still dressed up and scared hell out of them before they got their candy, and the first time I made it down to Pacific Ave. It was a lot of fun, although it is more of a Mardi Gras than a Hallowe’en- I’d like to see more ghosts, witches and goblins in the future, but that probably won’t happen, and maybe just as well. This will probably end up being the West coast Mardi Gras, which happens to fall on October 31st.

    Happy Hallowe’en…I miss it already.

I’m a bartender downtown and this Holloween kind of sucked. The police had all those baracids up makeing it almost impossible for me to get to work and there just were not as many people out this year.
I think it’s lame that there was violence and fell it’s only a matter of time before the city tries to shut it down. Chico used to be a Holloween hotspot until it got too crazy and now they actually block off entrance into the city.

    Evie
You sound like its the police that are gonna mess things up. I think your wrong.
The police are a reflection of the nasty onree part of the crowd. If the hearts and minds of the crowd in general were nice, there would only be a few cops out to direct people to the restrooms and give directions, like on “Leave it to Beaver”

[…] Speaking of good, it’s Nov. 1 in Santa Cruz, which means the Morning After. Halloween on Pacific Avenue is a big fat hairy deal here (sometimes literally so). The hordes, up to an estimated 20,000, crowded into the downtown area for an all-night street party that was part Burning Man, part Las Vegas streetwalker convention. Taking style points from the infamous Exotic Erotic Ball in San Francisco, the tacky and tasteless costumes brushed shoulders with the old classics and this observer saw lots of very scantily clad people — both dudes and ladies — braving nippy temperatures to show off on the one night of the year everyone wants to show off. Check out our short video of the event. […]
