Hood issue leads to recall of 118K GM vehicles

A missing secondary hood latch may cause the hood to pop up on 118,800 2010-12 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles.

This can block the driver’s vision and cause a crash.

General Motors is recalling 118,800 model year 20120-12 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon vehicles, such as the Canyon above, because they may lack a secondary hood latch. This can allow the hood to open while the effected vehicles are in use, possibly blocking the driver's vision and causing a crash.

The company will reach out to owners and instruct them on inspecting their vehicle for a secondary hood latch. Dealers will replace the hood on vehicles without the secondary latch for free.

The recall is to begin in mid-January. The recall campaign number is 12319.
