Work will continue on the Highway 1 Soquel/Morrissey auxiliary lanes project this holiday season, reports the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission.
Crews will focus on the retaining wall on northbound Highway 1. As weather permits, crews also will work to prepare the southbound side for the next phase of shifting traffic to the outside edge of the highway so work can begin on the center column for the new La Fonda ocercrossing.
While rain has impacted the project’s schedule, more rain in the forecast can continue to slow things down. Officials are reviewing various strategies in hopes of minimizing project delays, including possibly working extra shifts and weekends on days the weather is more favorable. During and after these storms, drivers are encouraged to slow down and use extreme caution when traveling through the construction area.
Meanwhile, storm water drainage systems are being monitored for pollution and remedial action is taken after each storm to repair any damage that may occur; however, the intensity and duration of each storm can leave excess water in the construction area.
