Volkswagen is recalling 2,471 model year 2012-13 Beetle vehicles with leather sport seats because the occupant control module may malfunction to not recognize when a child restraint system is installed.
If these vehicles are involved in a crash, the module may not turn off and the front airbag may deploy, increasing the risk of serious injury to the child sitting there.
The company will notify vehicle owners and dealers will replace the control modules at no charge.
A notification schedule has not been released. The recall number is 69i9/W6.
