Caltrans’ $1.3 million viaduct project along Highway 9 is ramping up, as tree removal and roadway drilling are on tap for later this month.
The project aims to improve safety along the highway. When the dust clears, motorists will travel on a smooth road.
Trees are slated to be removed Monday, Oct. 22 and Tuesday, Oct. 23 along Highway 9 as part of Caltrans’ viaduct project.
The work will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. It will require the stoppage of traffic in both directions as crews work to clear the road safely.
Delays of 15-20 minutes should be expected.
Meanwhile, drilling is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, weather permitting. Electronic message signs will warn motorists of the work, which is expected to cause 15-20 minute delays, as well.
Caltrans began this viaduct project in September. Watsonville’s Pavex Construction is the contractor performing the work. The project, which requires one way traffic controls, will wrap up in March 2013.
The landscaping part of the project requires no lane closures and will wrap up next summer.
Drivers are reminded to slow down when traveling through Caltrans work zones, which are double fine zones. It’s the law.
