Gas prices falling again thanks to slow economy

There are two gas stations in East San Jose that sell regular unleaded fuel for about $2.40 per gallon. They sit right across from each other on McKee Road near Highway 101.
Everywhere else, regular gas goes for about $2.72 a gallon to $3.03 per gallon.
The way the economy is going, perhaps the price to pump at the other stations will sink to the level of those two shops in San Jose sooner than later.
The American Automobile Association of Northern California reports gas is down an average of 3 cents statewide from a month ago to $2.89 a gallon. In the northern part of the state, gas prices fell 4 cents to $2.88 from last month. The national average price of gas is $2.52 a gallon, a 10 cent drop from the month before.
The decline in retail fuel and crude oil prices is attributed to the slump in the world economy, according to AAA analysts. In the last two weeks alone, the price of oil dipped almost 20 percent. The drop comes after June prices climbed as investors anticipated an economic turnaround was on the horizon, AAA said.
Oil and gas supply reports are due out this week, information that could immediately impact investment activity.
The least expensive gas in Northern California, at an average of $2.75 per gallon, can be found  in Stockton. The most expensive gas is in Eureka, at $3.14 a gallon. Nationally,  Springfield, Mo., has the least expensive gas – $2.15 per gallon. And, at $3.57 per gallon, the mos tcostly gas nationwide is in Wailuku, Hawaii.
