“I did it all for love”

I’ve been sadly neglecting this blog but I’m going to make a concerted effort to stop doing that. I’d like to start doing a weekly “news around the bay” feature or something of that nature.

We have had some pretty good stories this week, as far as the weirdness factor goes.

Yesterday, for instance, we had a story of a man who was able to escape from County Jail by simply walking out the door. This is apparently not that uncommon at facilities around the country.

He later turned himself in. Incidentally, this same man was my next-door neighbor for the first few months that I lived in Santa Cruxz before he was ultimately evicted.  He was also recently arrested after an officer apparently found him camping in a utility closet near city hall.

My colleagues at KSBW got a good interview with Mr. Craig Souza himself. Apparently he did it all for love. I think Meatloaf would be proud; I don’t think “escaping from jail” is what he meant by that in his classic song. (Side note: I’ve always really wondered what he did actually mean by that. Become a vegan and change his name to Lentil Loaf? Go skydiving? )

Jessica, keep up with your blog! You have interesting things to say. It is interesting to see what your recently transplanted eyes see here in the community. I’m a 12 year transplant myself here in this crazy town so I can relate. So you were neighbors with the nutty jail escapee? Welcome to Santa Cruz! You know you are a resident when you know the local jailbirds.
