Gov. asks for cities to post salaries
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger asked cities to post their salaries in the wake of the Bell scandal.
We’ve been working on posting public salaries and a wide variety of public information on Sentinel.com for the past two years.
Upcoming, we’ve got the Santa Cruz Metro salary database. We believe that publishing this information helps the community avoid the kind of scandal that has hit Bell, and we think you deserve to have a clear look at how your tax money is spent.
There’s a ton of data about the Santa Cruz community, and part of our job now and going forward is to help organize that data and help you sort through it. We’ve done some partnering with Santa Cruz Public Libraries to share their database of community services.
We’ve been posting real estate transactions, and we’ve recently added Santa Cruz Police’s crime map and the Sheriff’s crime map.
Here’s one reporter’s account about the value of data to newrooms.
Has your organization been gathering data? Want to share and display that database? Have a good idea for the Sentinel and community data? Drop us a line.
