In Kaila Gibson’su00a0freshman year at Soquel High she broke the school record in both the 1 mile and 2 mile races and placed 5th at the Cross Country State Competitionu00a0in her division, and 29th overall. She is not beating the likes of her older competition such as Nicki Hiltz or Anna Maxwell yet but is consistantly improving her times in all events. Looking forward to next year.u00a0

I am really surprised that Morgan Green from Pacific Collegiate School did not make this list. She is truly the ATHLETE OF THE YEAR- her record speaks for itself – 1st place in League for XC; top 50 in state for XC; BASKETBALL -27.2 points per game; 9.4 steals per game; 6.8 assists per game; 7.9 rebounds/game; taking PCS to its first ever post league win to make the semi-finals of CCS; All State Player DV; TRACK AND FIELD – 1st place in league 800m. In addition to being a great student.nI would like to give my vote to Morgan because I truly believe that she is the County’s AOY

  • Sally

I completely agree with this pose regarding Morgan Green. Tom Moore can you tell us why Morgan Green did not make this list?

  • John

yes I am schocked too that Morgan Green did not make this list can someone provide some answers, this really does not seem fair- she is much more accomplished as a sophmore than anyone else on this list.u00a0

  • Veronica

I want to vote for Morgan too but she is not on the list

  • John

Just noticed that no one from PCS made the girls list can you answer our questions Tom?

  • John

Morgan finally made the list – thank you!

You HONESTLY think that Morgan is more deserving of the County AOY award than someone like Nikki Hiltz who just won the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in the 1600m (against the ENTIRE state, not just the other super-small-school athletes), set a CCS and county record for the event, recorded some of the fastest times in the NATION for the 1600 and 800 distances, and was one of the fastest XC runners in the state (for ALL schools, not just the super-small-school division)?

yes she is all Nikki does is run- Morgan participates in multiple sports and excels at all of them, she is a leader on and off the court and has a great attitude

  • WILHEL46

Nikki may have competed against CA athletes but Morgan has competed nationally and internationally there is a lot you do not know about Morgan.u00a0

  • Guest

X-Country and Track are two different sports, each requiring different skill-sets,u00a0so Nikkiu00a0IS a multi-sport athlete.u00a0 “Excel” is a very relative word.u00a0 When PCS starts competing in a league/division that’s not akin to the frosh/soph-level of the large schools, then maybe I’ll consider their top athletes to be “excelling”.u00a0 Also, you seem to be assuming that Morgan is the only athlete on the list who’s a “leader on and off the court” and/or “has a great attitude”.u00a0 Parental blinders can often make it diffucult to have much objectivity.

  • WILHEL46

Morgan is a transfer look up her records before the “small school” in tennis, track, XC and basketball and pleased stop commenting this is notu00a0necessary

  • guest

…and Nikki hasn’t!?u00a0 Wow, there’s a lot you don’t know about Nikki then.u00a0 Again, compare their competitiveness on ANY level.

  • guest

Well, since this is a county AOY award, any athlete’s accomplishments as out-of-county athletes (if that’s where she transferred from) are irrelevant.

this is my last response – if you have an issue with Morganu00a0maybeu00a0you should take that up with her parents and not me. I made my caseu00a0because she deserved to be a part of this poll. This is not Nikki vs. Morgan poll and other parents have made a case for their kids as well why aren’t you responding to those posts? If this is personal please use another forum.u00a0

  • Guest

For the record, I have no issue with Morgan.u00a0 From what I’ve read she appears to be a great athlete and deserving of recognition.u00a0 As a former small-school athlete myself I understand the challenges with getting the proper and due respect for one’s accomplishments.u00a0 The only reason I addressed the original post about Morgan (using Nikki as a counter-example, though she’s not the only example I could’ve given) was because they wrote very bluntly “She is truly the ATHLETE OF THE YEAR- her record speaks for itself”.u00a0 I felt such a definitive (and obviously debatable) assertion deserved a response and some perspective.u00a0 Again, nothing against Morgan, to whom I wish the best.
