The No. 1 seeded Cardinals defeated Pacific Grove 10-3 in the CCS baseball Division III Semifinals.
In the section finals, they will face the winner of No. 2 Menlo and No. 3 Live Oak who play tonight at 7 p.m. The final is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday at the San Jose Municiple Stadium.

Third-seeded Spencer Talmadge of Junipero Serra beat Aptos’ Gallegos 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the Central Coast Section Singles Championship at Imperial Courts and then edged the Mariners’ Jordan Kepler in the match of the day 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (3) in the quarterfinals.
The Aptos team of Chris Giles and Reid Maruyama beat Palma’s Jackson Scott and Dominic Ottone 7-5, 6-1 in the first round of the doubles tournament before falling to the second-seeded Menlo Atherton duo of George Horowitz and Alec Haley 6-1, 6-4.

Harbor’s sophomore shot an even-par 70 at the Northern California Golf Association/CIF championships at Richmond Country Club to advance to the CIF state championships at Santa Maria Country Club on June 3.
He finished in sixth place. Carlmont’s Daniel Semmler earned medalist honors at Richmond’s narrow, 6,003 yard layout. McElyea was one of only six qualifiers to shoot even or better. The others were Cardinal Newman’s Alex Johnson [69], Rocklin’s Kyle Chatelain [69], Branham’s Jay Myers [69] and Sacramento Waldorf’s Austin Roberts [69].

Joe Davis hit a three-RBI double in the bottom of the third and Aptos rolled to a 10-0 win in five innings.

Down to their last out, SLV rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh to go on top. The Cougars will face Stevenson in the semifinals.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Taylor Johnson of San Lorenzo Valley qualified for the Central Coast Section Track and Field Championships finals in three events on Saturday at the section semifinals at Gilroy High.
Johnson had the best time of the day in the 1,600-meter race at 5 minutes, .26 seconds, finished first in her heat in the 800 [2:17.90] and also ran the anchor leg of the Cougars’ 4×400 relay [4.06.39]. Cara Hoyt, Allison Sasser, and Sarah Edwards were the other runners on the relay team.
Aptos’ Marissa Ferrante qualified for the finals in the 1,600 [5:10.41] and the 3,200 [11:24.86].
Three county girls advanced in the pole vault. Scotts Valley’s Cleary Wunder [10-6] and Haylee Childs [9-6], joined Monte Vista Christian’s Sara Pizzo [9-6].
Bonny Rivers [58.61] of Harbor and Natalia Munishkina [59.05] of Santa Cruz both qualified in the 400, and Aptos’ Janelle Coulter [5-6] and Julia McCarthy [5-4] qualified in the high jump.
Other local qualifiers were Scotts Valley’s Brittany Kuo in the long jump [16-11¼], Santa Cruz’s Gianna Tinetti in the triple jump [36-3½] and Elle Sanders in the 800 [2:20.86], and the Harbor 4×100 relay team [50.30].
Saturday’s qualifiers took the top eight finishers in each event to compete in the section finals Friday at Gilroy High. Field events begin at 4 p.m. with running events following at 6 p.m.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
Three local runners qualified for the CCS finals in the boys 1,600.
Rylan Hunt and Dayne Gradone of Aptos finished with the second and third beat times, 4:21.64 seconds and 4:22.63 respectively, and Brennan Lynch of Santa Cruz was fourth in 4:24.14.
Santa Cruz’s Zeke Sanders qualified in two events. Sanders had the top time in the 200 [21.98], and finished second in his heat in the 100 [10.96].
Walter Mayeda of Aptos moved on in the 800 [1:58.97] and Chris Proffitt of San Lorenzo Valley qualified with a 9:44.68 in the 3,200.
Santa Cruz had a pair of triple jumpers advance. Sophomores Taylor Kientzel [43-03 1/2] and Dezman Marshall [42-09] had the fourth and eighth best jumps.

Soquel advanced to the second round of the Central Coast Section D-III playoffs over visiting Thomas More. Knights ace Cedar Morgan pitched five scoreless innings of relief to earn the win and went 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI and two runs. Third baseman Robbie Dice hit a solo shot in the fifth inning for his fifth home run of the year.

Zach Mexicano threw a complete game five hitter for the Falcons.

JB Burns allowed one run in five innings but the Mustangs were eliminated.
