BOYS VOLLEYBALL
In a dogfight of a Central Coast Section Division II semifinal match against No. 3 Harker, second-seeded Aptos earned a 25-23, 19-25, 25-20, 26-28, 15-13 victory over the Eagles at Independence High.
The Mariners [31-4] face No. 1 St. Francis 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for the section title at Independence High in San Jose.
GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD
Monte Vista Christian School’s Brittany Johnson took first place in the 100- and 200-meter dash races, and ran a leg in the Mustangs’ victorious 4×100 relay at the Monterey Bay League track and field championships at Watsonville High on Saturday.
BOYS TRACK AND FIELD
Watsonville sophomore Jacob Schekman was second in the 300 in 43.44 and third in the 110 hurdles [16.72] at the Monterey Bay League track and field championships at Watsonville High.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Pacific Collegiate School’s team of Rosalie Lawrence, Rebecca Lyle, Sakia Wright, and Jamie Firth won two relay events at the Mission Trail Athletic League finals at Carmel High.
BOYS SWIMMING
Kirby’s Mitchell Reiff-Goldberg won twice at the MTAL Finals.
Reiff-Goldberg was fastest in the 200 free in 2 minutes 07.30 seconds and first in the 500 free [4:53.68].

HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL
Scotts Valley 6, SLV 0
Robbie Erlin [4-1] stuck out nine batters and walked one in his complete-game win, as Scotts Valley beat SLV 6-0 in the teams’ SCCAL finale.
Alex Taku allowed one hit in five innings of work, and Santa Cruz beat visiting Harbor 8-2.
Seaside 6, Monte Vista Christian 0
MVC fell to Seaside 10-0 in five innings in the teams’ Monterey Bay League game and now must apply for an at-large berth to the CCS playoffs after tying for second place in league.

BOYS GOLF
Harbor’s Cory McElyea was the best in the field at 2-under with a 69 at the CCS Region 2 finals in Rancho Canada.
Also for Harbor Quinn Gruber was 31st with an 80, Mike Dembski was 60th with an 89, Oliver Eicholz was 76th with 100, Ben Frisbey was 79th with a 103, Kyle Travers was 81st with a 112.
Soquel’s Zack Wiget was 68th with a 93.
Menlo-Atherton was the best team with a cumulative score of 387. Harbor finished 10th at 441.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Soquel 2, Santa Cruz 1
Kesley Corkrean struck out 12 Cardinals and gave up just three hits and an unearned in seven innings. Kelly Donnelley and Britt Williams each hit solo shots for the Knights.

BOYS GOLF
Aptos High golfer Sean Elser advanced out of the Central Coast Section regional tournament in Carmel on Tuesday to next week’s section-championship round.
Elser shot a 2-over 73 at Rancho Canada Golf Club’s West Course to move on.
Mountain View’s Adam Ichikawa shot a 2-under 69 for medalist honors.
The Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League-champion Mariners, minus sick starter Drew McCauley, shot a 419 total to finish 10th of the 11 teams competing in the first of two regionals. The second regional takes place today.
James Waggoner [85], Eric Ichtertz [86], Nolan Hatton [86] and Spencer Cook [88] also had their scores count for the Mariners, who went 12-0 in SCCAl play.
Santa Cruz’s Kevin DiTano, who qualified for the event as an individual, shot an 83, failing to advance in his first CCS appearance.
The top four teams Tuesday advanced to next week’s championship, as will be the case in today’s regional. Menlo-Atherton shot a 385 for the low total, followed by Mountain View [388], Carmel [394] and St. Francis [395].
Last year, Aptos senior Nick Ragsac won the CCS individual crown.
The championships will be May 13 at Rancho Canada’s West Course at 8 a.m.

Santa Cruz 16, SLV 5
Derek Mori, Justin Torchio, and Dylan Gavin all homerd as the Cardinals had 15 hits, inlcuding a nine run second inning, and thumped SLV. The Cardinals and remain one game behind Aptos in league.
Aptos 12, Harbor 0
Kyle Anderson took care of the pitching duties for the Mariners going five innings while giving up just three hits and striking out seven Pirates.
The rest of the Mariners [21-4, 10-1 SCCAL] took care of the offense. Bobby Crocker was 4-for-5 with three stolen bases and scored five times. Tyler Raymond was 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs and Nick Agnello was 3-for-4.
For Harbor, Billy Jesberg was 1-for-2 and Patrick Furtado and Cody Dickerson were each 1-for-3.
HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL
Harbor 3, Scotts Valley 2
All five of the game’s runs were scored in the seventh inning as Carra McParkland knocked in two in top of the final frame to give the Pirates the lead. Scotts Valley’s Erica Houseman drove in two in the bottom half, but it wasn’t enough.
Dona Smith pitched seven strong for Harbor and Nikki Owens went the distance for the Falcons.
Seaside 7, Monte Vista Christian 4
Willa Vo was 1-for-4 with three RBIs for Seaside, and Taylor Bokariza drove in two for the Mustangs in their final game of the season.
SLV 22, St. Francis 5
Kendra Salangsang and Rachel Gregory had five hits each as the Cougar offense rallied for 22 runs.
HIGH SCHOOL LACROSSE
Aptos 10, Soquel 8
Matt Callahan and Luke Murtha each scored four goals to lead the Maeriners to a win in both teams’ season finales.

MEN’S GOLF
The Cabrillo men’s golf team advanced to the state tournament with a third-place finish in the Northern California Community College Championships at Brookside Country Club in Stockton on Monday.
Gary Yoro took sixth in the individual tournament and led the Seahawks with a 148 over 36 holes on the par-72 course.
Cabrillo shot 764 as a team behind second-place Chabot [753] and first-place Sierra [750]. Fresno also shot 764 but the Seahawks were awarded the third-place trophy because they had a better total score on the final hole.

Aptos 9, Santa Cruz 0
Aptos freshman shortstop Lindsey Sotomayor hit a two-run home run in the first inning and the Mariners cruised a 9-0 win over host Santa Cruz.

Kyle Baker delivered a three-run double in the top of the seventh to put North Monterey County ahead in a 7-2 victory over Monte Vista Christian.
Watsonville 13, Pajaro Valley 8
Gerrick Kersten had a big night for the Wildcatz to lead them to a 13-8 victory over Pajaro Valley in a played at Watsonville.
Kersten hit a pair of home runs, a solo shot in the fourth and a two-run blast in the seventh, while collecting four RBIs.

BASEBALL

Kevin Eichorn struck out 13 Cougar batters in a complete game effort as Aptos beat San Lorenzo Valley 6-0.
Four Harbor errors helped turn only four Soquel hits into six runs, as the Knights downed the Pirates 6-4.
SOFTBALL
Tessa Stoeberl went 3-for-4 with a RBI at the plate, while Sarah Hoag struck out 13 to lead Monterey past Monte Vista Christian 3-1.
Lauren Colfer pitched eight innings in over two hours and teammate Kelsey Corkcrean earned the save as Soquel beat visiting St. Francis, 6-5, in SCCAL play.

CCS Playoffs, First Round
Aptos 4, Menlo-Atherton 3
Brandon Gallegos fought off three match points with Aptos’ season on the line and beat Menlo-Atherton’s George Horowitz in a third set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles. The 4-3 Mariner win advances them into the second round of Central Coast Section playoffs where they will meet top ranked Saratoga [16-1] at 3 p.m. Friday.

Breana Kostreba was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and two runs scored, and Lindsey Sotomayor was 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs in a Mariner win that locked up the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League Title.

GOLF
UNLV sophomore Eddie Olson, of Aptos, made his first collegiate golf tournament victory a big one - the Mountain West Conference Championship.
Olson produced a three-stroke margin of victory at the par-71 Catalina Course at Tuscon International on Saturday. He closed with a 1-under 70 in the third round for a 4-under 209 total.
Aaron Goldberg of San Diego State, Riley Arp of Colorado State, and Robbie Fillmore of Brigham Young shot 212 totals to tie for second place.
Olson’s previous best career finishes were earlier this season. He was 10th at the Shoot-out at Angel Park in September and 10th at the National Invitational Tournament in March.
His margin of victory Saturday was tied for the largest in MWC Championships history.
COLLLEGE SWIMMING
Cabrillo’s Justin Weber won the 200 butterfly on the final day Coast Conference Championships at Chabot College in Hayward. Weber swam the event in 2 minutes 2.08 seconds and had placed second on Friday in the 100 fly [53.79].
Also Friday, Weber was also part of the men’s medley relay team with Pedro Caldas, Dan McDonough, and Richard Garcia who took third [1:48.31].
On the women’s side for Cabrillo, Georgia Nichols finished third in the 100 fly [1:07.24]. The women’s and the men’s team each placed fourth in overall points.
