Santa Cruz’s Luke Rockhold has reportedly dropped out of his Jan. 12 bout with Lorenz Larkin.
The MMA Corner first reported the news:
“The MMA Corner has learned from sources close to the camp of Rockhold that the middleweight champion has suffered a wrist injury and has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled Jan. 12 title defense against Lorenz Larkin.”
Larkin, expectedly, is not very pleased.
Rockhold is expected to be on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour around noon today to discuss why he pulled out of the Larkin fight. You can check it out on iTunes.
It was a reported wrist injury that forced the Strikeforce middleweight champion to withdraw from his previous scheduled bout with Larkin, on Nov. 3. Whether or not he reaggravated the same wrist is unclear.
With Rockhold reportedly out, though, his next scheduled bout could come in the UFC — not in Strikeforce. It’s been reported the latter promotion will fold following its Jan. 12 event, with Rockhold expected to make the leap.
