Here is another preview for Friday’s game between P.V. and MVC by Jim Seimas. Check back later for my predictions …
PAJARO VALLEY [1-5-1, 0-3 MBL] AT MVC [7-0, 3-0]
TIME: 7:30 p.m. PLACE: MVC School, Watsonville. LAST YEAR: MVC won 46-0. NOTES: Pajaro Valley is winless in its past five contests — it tied Greenfield in a lightning-shortened game Sept. 23. Monte Vista Christian — off to its best start in its 19-year history — comes off a 35-7 road win over Seaside, a first since 2002.
“We want to be 8-0,” Mustangs coach David Reese said. “The school’s never been 8-0. Every time we do something special now, it’s a first for the school.” Reese said a win essentially makes the Mustangs a lock for postseason play. And if they win out, they could earn the No. 1 seed in the CCS D-IV playoffs. “We want to get out of this with a win and healthy going into the last two weeks,” Reese said. Pajaro Valley comes off a loss to Monterey. MVC is incredibly versatile on offense — it has five players who have scored 30 or more points — and boasts averages of 37 points and 313 yards. But the Mustangs’ understated defense has been key to this run. MVC has allowed only two opponents to score more than 10 points this season: Christopher [18] and Alvarez [14]. The Mustangs are holding opponents to averages of 8.7 points and 248 yards. A solid defensive secondary is headlined by Danny Saporito, who has five interceptions, including one he returned 60 yards for a touchdown last week. The game will be televised by CTV [Comcast 25/Charter 71] on Sunday at 7 p.m.
