Wow, talk about your match meets your gasoline. The great rocker Ted Nugent is bound for Santa Cruz to play an Aug. 19 date at the Catalyst. “The Nuge” is as well known today for his controversially aggressive pro-gun, anti-Obama attitudes than his music, but classic rock metalheads have to give the man props whatever his politics. Even the title of his new tour is something to set liberals’ teeth on edge: “Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead.” Should be interesting.
Also newly booked into local venues is the terrific country chanteuse Shelby Lynne (July 2, Kuumbwa); the one-of-a-kind Texas troubadour Kinky Friedman (Aug. 4, Moe’s Alley); the new heartland-rock band that has critics atwitter the Hold Steady (Aug. 24, Catalyst); and one of California’s great songwriters Dave Alvin with his new group the Guilty Women (Sept. 23, The Rio).
