The musical duo known as She & Him, features singer Zooey Deschanel and guitarist M. Ward. While the “She” half of the twosome adds glamour — Deschanel is a indie movie princess, having starred in last year’s “(500) Days of Summer” — the “Him” is known as one of the sharpest songwriters in the folk idiom of the last decade.
Together She & Him make an appealing pair, and they’ll be performing live at the Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz on May 28.
Of course, they’re not the only dynamic duo coming to town. How about the double bill of guitar geniuses Bob Brozman and David Lindley, playing together at the Rio on Saturday, April 3.
Other intriguing newly booked dates include two for the infamous date 4/20, the unofficial holiday to celebrate all things cannibas-related. On April 20 at Kuumbwa, Rhan Wilson, the off-beat musical genius who has given the world an “Altared Christmas” and an “Altared Valentine’s Day,” will return with his band for “Have You Ever Been Altared?,” a celebration of 1960s-style hippie jams, redone in a minor key. On the same date, Moe’s Alley will present a dub fantasia called “Fourtwomp” by a group called Santa Cruz Dubstep.
Also, Henry Rollins at the Rio on June 5, and rocker Shawn Phillips at Don Quixote’s Sept. 12. For these and all other shows coming up in the area, check out our Futures Index.
