Hey kids, let’s go trippin’ on Christmas Day!
Long before the Grateful Dead gave that term a distinct pharmaceutical vibe, surf-r0ck king Dick Dale was doing his version of “trippin’” on his surfboard. Dale, the man who invented surf guitar, is still going strong and plans to play Moe’s Alley on Santa Cruz on Dec. 25. Now, that’s a Santa Cruz Christmas.
Other fun stuff to look forward to:
One of the great pioneering hip-hop groups of the 1990s was Digable Planets. Two thirds of the Planets — Butterfly and Doodlebug — come to Moe’s Alley Dec. 7.
The great dub reggae icon Lee “Scratch” Perry plays the Catalyst Dec. 20.
Eighty-year-0ld country music legend Charlie Louvin plays Don Quixote’s in Felton on Dec. 14.
Gift of Gab, part of the fine hip-hop combo Blackalicious, plays Moe’s Alley on Dec. 5.
