Sheriff’s deputies responding to break up a fight at the Felton Fair Shopping Center just before 10 a.m. Monday inadvertently busted a suspected drug dealer, according to Sgt. Greg Lansdowne.
Nicholas Nelson, 24, of Felton matched the description of one of the fighters so deputies detained him. When they checked to see if he had any outstanding warrants, the deputies learned Nelson was on probation for past drug violations and that, as part of his probation, could be searched by law enforcement officers, accordng to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies found $5,500 cash and about a pound of marijuana in Nelson’s backpack, as well as a scale and packaging materials, Lansdowne said.
Nelson was booked into County Jail on suspicion of possessing marijuana, possessing marijuana for sale and a probation violation, according to jail records. He remained there Wednesday afternoon.
The other person involved in the reported fight was not located. Lansdowne said he didn’t know what the two men were arguing about.
“Unfortunately the other guy got away from the fight,” Lansdowne said.

Some folks want to legalize pot and tax it at $50 per ounce. So, do you think that guy would have collected $800 in taxes and turned the money over to the tax collector?

IF marijuana was legal do you really think this guy would be running around with a pound and a scale trying to sell it ?
Right now, Medical Marijuana IS Legal in our state; Should they be charging an extra tax so the State can have a percentage of their money ?
What other pharmaceutical or medicinal plant do they tax ?

I don’t think that guy would have to many people lined up to buy pot from him if they could buy it at Safeway.

Legalize it…Do you see this kind of behavior at the beer aisle in Safeway? Also, if you’re looking for the other dirt bag…check the field where the South County Housing thing was going to go…The “scene” is back now that the SCA project went down in flames (good job BOS on that, by they way).

I don’t think that guy’s business model would hold up without prohibition. Just as speakeasies faded from the scene after alcohol prohibition ended, many consumers would likely choose to purchase their marijuana from above ground establishments and not violent, shady alley cats with back packs containing product of unknown origin or questionable content.

You have missed the point, RobtA.
Would you buy alcohol or Tylenol from someone on the street?
No, you buy it at the store with the rest of your drugs.

I think marijuana should be legalized. Our society waste far to much money prosecuting people like this , when we could benefit as a sociaty financily from the proper taxation and regulation of marijauna the same as alcohol. Those who abuse any substance such as alcohol and marijauna are for less in number to those that dont abuse it after all.
Why do we consistantly spend dollar after dollar prosecuting and fihgting a never eneding battle that was begun way back in the 1920′s by William Hearst just so he could monopilize on his own private lumber empiure ???? Hemp or marijuana was made illegal largely due to his influence and political clouyt way back then fighting against the hemp/marijuana industry just to push his own financial agenda after all. Stop the war against marijauna and spend our fiscal dollars in a more prudent way .
