The linebacker was the AFC’s leading vote-getter for special teams with 106,515 votes.

A backup to mike linebacker Ray Lewis, Ayanbadejo has made 30 tackles this season.

Ishida announced Sunday. The games will be held Friday-Saturday, Dec. 16-17 at The Home Depot Center in Carson and will be broadcast live by Time Warner Cable.

The Selection Committee, comprised of the 10 CIF Section Commissioners, has selected the following teams to participate in the 2011 CIF State Football Championship Bowl Games Presented by Farmers.

Washington Union won their second consecutive Central Section Division IV title and has won 21 consecutive games. The Panthers are appearing at the CIF State Championship Bowl games for the first time.

SC’s Garner, Utah State take on Auburn in football opener

College football players get pretty excited for season-opening games. Santa Cruz High alum Quinn Garner has experienced three of them at Utah State.

Saturday should be even a memorable one for Garner, a 6-foot-3, 263-pound defensive end for the Aggies.

Not only is it his senior year, the Aggies travel to Alabama to take on defending BCS national champion Auburn in a nationally televised game. The contest — the first ever between the schools — will air on ESPN at 9 a.m.

Auburn is ranked No. 23 in the Preseason AP Poll and No. 19 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Preseason Poll.

Garner — a former linebacker who earned the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2006 and ’07 — recorded 43 tackles last season, including five for a loss of yards. He had 2½ sacks and recorded an interception.

San Lorenzo Valley High and Cabrillo College alum Daniel Stevenson had a touchdown reception, as Menlo College beat visiting University of British Columbia 39-13 in its season-opening game Saturday. The 6-foot-3 junior receiver finished with two catches for 23 yards.

Menlo’s Anthony Bendana, also a former Cabrillo standout, made four tackles from his defensive back position.
