The Waves’ 13U baseball team, based out of Santa Cruz County, took second place at the Super NIT over the weekend to qualify for the Elite 32 World Series in Orlando this summer.
The Waves won five straight games to make it to the championship.
In pool play, they beat Tabu 9-3, Nor Cal Bears 7-6 and Central Coast Baseball 2-1.
The Waves topped Grants Academy 5-2 in the quarterfinals and Club All Star 8-5 in the semifinals before falling to the River City Bandits, the No. 1 ranked team in California, 8-2, in the championship.
The Elite World Series will be Aug. 5-11. It will have 32 of the Top 13U teams from across the country and Puerto Rico. The World Series in hosted at Disney Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando.
The Waves include James Gomez Jr., Rex Gomez, Cooper Smith, Joseph Chalco, Jonah Shabry, Michael Hammill, Ruben Ibarra, Sam Esparza, Jack Gentry, Juwan Camargo, Ryan Gallegos and Matt Gillette.
