Bill Dodge coached baseball for 30 years for Santa Cruz High and won more than 500 games. He stills attends games regularly and supports the Cardinals.
When he’s not playing sports, Garrett Johnston — a football, basketball and baseball player at Scotts Valley High — loves listening to country music, camping and fishing.
Santa Cruz High’s Walker Nodine won the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League singles tennis title as a junior in 2012. He’s looking to close out his four-year career with a repeat title in 2013.

Football fans may remember that, with the help of producer Anthony Solis, Sentinel staff writer Andrew Matheson and I turned out roughly 20 episodes of “Double Coverage” this past fall. Solis recently put together a “blooper” video. I call it a highlight reel, though. Be warned, there’s a lot of flexing.
Leandor Merril reached on error in the seventh inning and pinch runner Josh Friedman scored the game-winning run on an error, as Santa Cruz High’s baseball team beat visiting The King’s Academy 2-1 in a nonleague game.
Chen Duffy threw 1 1/3 innings of relief for the win. Ryan Myers took the loss for TKA (6-2).
Ross Garabaldi hada double for the Cardinals (2-5), who face Harbor in league action Friday.
First-year Cardinals coach George Arnott and first baseman Brock Theilan were ejected from the game. Arnott was tossed after Theilan was ejected for “malicious contact,” making hard tags on the runner on pick-off throws.
“I didn’t know there was a warning,” said Arnott, who repeatedly asked the official to show him what too hard a tag was.
Arnott said he’ll appeal the ejections with SCCAL commissioner Pat Lovell.
