Aptos’ Oberst signs contract with San Jose SaberCats

Former Aptos High and Cabrillo College lineman Robert Oberst signed a contract with the San Jose SaberCats earlier this week, his junior college coach Bill Garrison reported.
Oberst, a 2003 Mariners graduate, was named to the all-league, all-Central Coast Section and all-state teams after his senior season in high school. He was voted all-conference at Cabrillo, too. He bounced around colleges before finishing up at NCAA Division II Western Oregon University in 2008. Last season, he helped as an assistant coach on the Mariners’ varsity team.
NOTES: Cabrillo safety Derrick Morgan gave a verbal commitment earlier this week to play for University of Texas-El Paso beginning next season. He’ll sign a letter of intent Feb. 2, the first day of the regular signing period.
