Scotts Valley’s Erlin makes pro debut

Former Scotts Valley High ace Robbie Erlin – the Sentinel’s 2009 County Player of the Year in baseball – made his professional debut Sunday night.

Coming on in meddle relief, Erlin threw a scoreless inning in Arizona League action as the AZL Rangers beat the AZL A’s 1-0. Erlin entered in the sixth inning in place of starter Ezequiel Rijo and allowed one hit but struckout the side.

Erlin, a 6-foot-, 170-pound lefthander, was a third-round draft pick by the Texas Rangers in June.
