Aptos’ Marc Lawless shot an 8-under-64 in the third round of the first stage of PGA Tour Q-School at Dayton Valley Golf and Country Club in Nevada on Thursday.
Lawless holds the lead in the 77-player field with a 18-under-198 total. The final round is today. The top 23 players and ties advance to the second stage, which will be held at six sites nationwide beginning Nov. 12.
The six-round final stage will be held at PGA West in La Quinta from Dec. 3-8.
Beginning Wednesday, three other locals begin their quest to reach the PGA Tour. Corralitos’ Nick Manfre, Soquel’s Nathan Smith and Santa Cruz’s Isaac Weintraub will compete in the first stage tournament at San Juan Oaks G.C. in Hollister. It is one of 12 first stage qualifiers.
