Soquel’s Robert Eberle qualifies for U.S. Mid-Am

Soquel golfer Robert Eberle finished in a three-way tie for medalist honors at qualifying for the U.S Mid Amateur Championship at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose on Monday.

Eberle shot an even-par 71 to match Burlingame’s Randy Haag and Dublin’s Brian Swenson as low scorer. The three low scorers advance to the U.S. Mid-Am, which runs Sept. 6-11 at Milwaukee C.C.

Eberle, who attempted to qualify for the U.S. Senior Open in June, finished with four birdies, a bogey and double bogey at Silver Creek.

Local qualifiers for the Mid-Am were also held at Spring Creek and Green Valley on Monday.

Eberle is the fourth local to advance to a USGA championship this summer. Watsonville’s Les Teuteberg (U.S Am Pub Links), Santa Cruz’s Cory McElyea (U.S. Junior Am) and Aptos’ Eddie Olson (U.S. Amateur) are the others.
