Aptos’ Ensminger triples his pleasure

First and foremost, Aptos High’s football team beat an improved Watsonville team 14-6 Friday night in the Black and Blue Bowl.

But Mariners linebacker Dana Ensminger tripled his pleasure with what has to be a rare football feat for prep football in the area. Think along the lines of the rarity of the no-hitter, perfect game or hitting for the cycle in baseball. Well, Ensminger recorded three sacks of fleet-footed Wildcatz quarterback Ryan Saucedo.

For those of you who haven’t seen Saucedo play, he isn’t an easy guy to catch. He often works out of the shotgun formation in the Wildcatz’s spread attack and had excellent pass blocking Friday night against the Mariners. Seriously, the guy had 10 seconds on many pass plays to scan over the field.

Said Ensminger: “Our boys up front did a good job of containment, forcing him toward me. They gave me lanes to run through.”
